Why community makes life better

What research says about connection, and why Encounter puts people first.

Encounter is a community first. The people, the teaching, and the relationships are the reason many members stay, whether or not they ever build a business.

We underestimate connection

Epley and Schroeder found that commuters asked to talk with a stranger had a more pleasant journey than those asked to sit alone, though most predicted the opposite. Boothby and colleagues found that after conversations, people underestimate how much the other person liked them.

Friendship takes hours

Jeffrey Hall estimated that it takes roughly 50 hours together to become casual friends and more than 200 to become close friends. Shared calls, masterminds, and trips are where those hours come from.

What that means for you

Join the calls. Introduce yourself in the community. Ask one member a real question this week. The relationships you build are part of what you're inviting people into.
