Words to make your own

Adapted from the Málaga training and The Encounter Daily. If you haven't seen the training yet, it's available in the Community. Swap every bracket for something true, then shift each line to how you actually talk. If you'd never say “what’s keeping you busy,” say “what are you up to these days?”

Reconnecting with someone

“Hi, you came to mind this morning and I realized we haven't properly caught up in ages. How are you doing, and what's keeping you busy at the moment?”

“Hi [name], you came to mind today because [specific reason]. No agenda at all, I just wanted to say hello. How are you doing?”

The personal invitation

“You came to mind because [specific reason]. We're building Encounter around community, learning and travel, and I think you'd really enjoy [relevant part]. Here's your invitation. Have a look and let me know if you'd like to explore it with us. [LINK]”

When someone asks what Encounter is

“I'm helping build Encounter, a global community where we learn, travel and build businesses together.”

“What part of that interests you?”

When they're interested

“What stood out to you? I can answer that, and if you'd like to go through the business side, we can bring [leader] into the conversation.”

“I'm learning this part too. [Name] is on our team and has experience with it. Let's bring her in so you can get a clear answer.”

Following up as agreed

“Hi [name], checking back as we agreed. What did you think of the invitation? Happy to talk through anything you're curious about.”

Welcoming someone in

“Welcome in. I'm so happy you're here. Introduce yourself to the community when you're ready, and tell me what you'd like to explore first.”

Conversation starters for posts

“Who's someone you could talk to for hours? Tell me how you met.”

“What's the best invitation you've ever received? What made it feel special?”

“What's a trip you're still talking about? What made it stick?”

“What's something you want to learn this year? Who would you love to learn it from?”

For leaders

“I'd love to hear about your list. Who's the person you're most excited about, and why them?”

“Thanks for sharing this. The line about why she came to mind is lovely. What would happen if you cut the rest and let that line do the work?”

“Before we talk with your guest, tell me what they're most interested in and what they've already seen.”
